thank you Greg thank you worship staff thank you so much for our students leading the way and we're just excited about today amen amen so Isaiah chapter 6 beginning of the first verse in the year of King Uzziah's0:29death I saw the Lord lifted on a throne lofty and exalted with the train of his robe filling the temple a seraphim stood above him each having six wings with two he covered his face with two he covered his feet with two he flew and one called out to another saying holy holy holy is the Lord of hosts and the whole earth is full of his glory and the foundation of the threshold trembled at the0:56voice of him who called out while the temple was filled with smoke then I said woe is me for I am ruined because I'm a man of unclean lips and I live among people of unclean lips my eyes have seen the king the king the Lord of hosts then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal with his hand which he had taken from the altar with tongs and he touched my mouth with it and said behold this has1:22touched your lips and your iniquity is taken away and your sin is forgiven then I heard the voice of the Lord saying whom shall I send and who will go for us then I said here am I send me father let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight today lord we love you1:51we praise you we thank you for what we've experienced in musical biblical worship today father I pray that as we sang praises unto your name I pray father you received it all not one person here received any you're the audience of one we thank you for talent that you've given to our teenagers and to these adults who sang who led us in worship today our musicians2:16and our worship leader now Greg has led us so beautifully today to your throne of grace and father we have come to bow before you today to proscanio before you today to lift up your name today you are the audience of one and we are here today to proclaim your name and now as we unpack your word today in biblical2:39preaching father I pray that we walk away from this place entirely different than when we came we give you all the praise all the glory and all the honor in Jesus name we pray and the church said amen our message truth will remain throughout the entire series worship is setting our minds attention and our hearts affection3:05on God as I began to prepare this week I started thinking how can I drive that home from a personal perspective because adoration is our topic today last week we discussed praise and thanksgiving praise is our expression our love of God who he is thank heaven is our expression of love for God for what he does and today we're adoring God for actually who he is and so I started thinking about how can I drive it home from a3:33personal perspective I try to be as transparent in my preaching as I possibly can and so I started thinking about our marriage mine and Debbie's marriage we've been married 34 years I know that shocks some of y'all how does a guy look so young be so old to be buried that long it's called styling cream you put it in your hair it colors out the gray and so I I've been married now over 34 years and so I was a single guy moving from Nashville Tennessee I was from3:59Birmingham but I was in the workforce I've only had two real careers in food service distribution business and I was in Nashville with a major food service company there in Tennessee as a national company at that time and they were moving us around and I was in the corporate training program and so they said you're gonna have to go start a distributor a a a territory from scratch meaning we want you to go build um a territory with no customer base whatsoever so the best way to do that4:29in the food service distribution business is to go in and secure the uh you can't run trucks empty they've got to have something on them you got to have some have somebody to send some groceries to so what you do is you go in and and you capture the school business and so I would go in to the market and I went into the market and I claimed the uh the Decatur city school bid and I as I locked into that Decatur city school bid one of the lunchroom managers was a a a widowed lady a wonderful lady and she was4:59about 20 years older than me and she just loved me so much and I loved her and she took care of me she was one of my best customers and she introduced me to my now bride it was her sister she asked me one day she said are you dating anybody she knew I was single she said are you dating anybody I said no I'm not and I as she said I'm thinking you know well maybe she's you know she's a widowed lady maybe you5:24know I've always wanted to date older women and so maybe she's asking me out you know she's she said no no no silly I've got this sister so I was terrified because blind dates and mice and me did not work it just was not a good thing usually blind dates just don't usually work out and so I ended up calling this girl named Debbie she was in the car business at the time she was a management at the time and she was I called her up and I asked her I said hey this is Dan Moran she said okay what can I do for you5:52I said your sister and I gave her sister's name she said she entered she gave me your number thought you might want to go have coffee or something like that she said well I don't know let me check my schedule and I thought wow you know I'm gonna call her she's gonna go wow hey Dan Moran's calling you bet I'm gonna go out with him you know and you know she must have already seen I don't know but anyway I I called her up we went out and in October 19th 1979 1979 now to do the math here October 19 19796:15I went out with her on a blind date for the first time the next day we went out on the 20th the 21st we went to get went out again and we've been dating ever since and so in January came along it was an unseasonably warm late January weekend I said you know it's gonna be kind of warm why don't6:41we go on a picnic now nobody goes on picnics in January or February but I had an ulterior motive I was setting my mind's attention and my heart's affection on Miss Debbie and so I took I got the basket together and I put together a fantastic meal I said it was my deal I'm gonna take you on this picnic I mean we had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and bologna cheese and I got some chips ahoy chips7:08a chocolate chip I mean I had it all down man I we were gonna have a great time so we went up to the Tennessee River to Joe Wheeler State Park and we found us a nice place and we spread it out there and it was so warm that I had set my mind's attention and my heart's affection on Miss Debbie and so you know guys you know how it is when that moment you know good and well she's the one you're just praying she'll say yes you know that she's the one and you're trying to muster up the7:33courage and so I did the obvious thing I came up with a plan I came up with a strategy I'm going to win this woman's heart and her affection I'm going to I've got the plan so I had the meal and everything like that and we were just kind of sitting there watching the boats go up the barges go up and down Tennessee River it was a nice day and real sunny warm day that day and so I found this nice rock we were over there by so I kind of knelt down on one knee and I looked at Miss Debbie right square in those8:01beautiful blue eyes that blonde blonde hair at the time blue eyes prettiest thing on the planet I looked up at her and I said Debbie what are you doing August the seventh she said I have no idea it's late January wait time she said you know what I said you want to get married I thought it was a great proposal I thought it was awesome man you know when you ask that question do you want to get married8:30there's this pause all I could hear was the water bouncing off the rocks of the Tennessee River there's that moment from the question and the answer that isn't it seems like an eternity and she looked at me she said sure and I went I mean it was awesome you think y'all can only dance I can do it man right you see I set my mind's9:02attention and my heart's affection on Miss Debbie that is exactly what adoration is adoration is when we see God for who he is when we start seeing him for who he really is we will do nothing but adore him for all he's done for us including that time where he reached down from the halls of heaven and gave us9:29the gift of eternal life when we really understand who God is when we really see who he is we will adore him for what he is and who he is that's exactly what Isaiah said holy holy holy is the lord of hosts and the whole earth is full of his glory church I want to give you two or three principles today for9:53us to lock into and understanding that I believe that number one that adoration is the preparation of the inhabitant of God turn with me to Exodus chapter 15 Exodus chapter 15 verse 2 the Lord is my strength and my song the Lord is my strength and song he has become my salvation the Lord is my God and I will praise him my father's and my father's God and I will it stole him the Lord is my strength and10:22my when we understand who God really is we will it stole him we will exalt him it is the habit inhabitants of God it is preparing the had the preparation for the inhabitants of God I want to turn with me to psalms chapter 30 72 psalm 72 look what the psalmist is writing to us and blessed10:48be his glorious name forever and may the whole earth be filled with his glory amen and you see church when we understand adoration adoration is the preparation for the inhabitants of God secondly adoration is preparing the habitation to exalt God back up to psalms 150 psalms 150 wonderful passage I want us to read the entire psalms 15011:16praise the Lord praise God in his sanctuary praise him in his mighty expense it's fast praise him in his mighty deeds praise him and according his excellent greatness praise him with a trumpet sound praise him with a harp and a lyre praise him with a temple praise him in dancing and praise him with stringed instruments and a pipe praise him with loud symbols praise him resounding symbols11:42let everything say it with me that has breath praise the Lord amen you see folks when we adore God for who he is we will appraise him in every aspect of who he is i want you to quickly turn with me to luke's gospel luke chapter 19 verse 40 matthew mark luke john matthew mark luke chapter 19 verse 40 i want you to see this passage because if we don't praise god look what happens12:12matthew luke chapter 19 verse 40 and he answered and said i tell you if these become silent meaning the church becomes silent the stones will cry out i want you to know something i may have rocks in my head but my rocks in my head are going to praise the lord if we don't the stones will shout his praises12:36you see adoration is a preparation for the inhabitant of god that adoration is preparing the habitation to exalt god but here is where i want us to count for the next few moments adoration is our intimate expression to god adoration is our intimate expression to god now those of you12:58that are not married in this room never been married if you've not been married especially teenagers they're not married i pray if they're not married you know there's there's this this relationship between a husband and wife is unique it can be wonderful and it can be awful all in the same day amen13:18all the mama all the wives say amen it my wife says if you'll just do what i tell you do everything's okay right but there's something about that relationship is an intimacy there when we start seeing god for who he really is we will start adoring him for who he really is we will have that intimate moment13:48i want you to look quickly to psalms chapter 95 it's a very familiar passage this will help us explain what i'm talking about it is a adoration is our intimate expression for god for who he is our intimate expression to god psalms chapter 95 i want you to listen to what the word says come let us worship and let us bow down let us kneel before the lord our maker or that same translation is to proskuneo14:15to bow toward to kiss toward psalms chapter 96 verse 9 worship the lord in holy attire tremble before him in all the earth now some people think that's the way we ought to be dressed it ought to be some kind of that is a personal that is a heart thought out there that's not the way we should put a robe on or a suit or a tie or be dressed appropriately i think we should be dressed appropriately always when14:43we're in public we should be dressed appropriately correct amen but it's not that's what he's talking about it is a personal heart thing we should be dressed tremble before him in all the earth worship is our in a holy attire i want you to look with psalms chapter 29 verse 2 psalms chapter 29 back up a couple of chapters psalms 29 verse 2 i'm driving home a point for you to consider today psalms chapter 2915:09verse 2 ascribe to the lord the glory due his name worship the lord in holy array ascribe to him his due folks let me tell you something god is a only one god there is one god there's only audience of one and we should worship him his spirit and truth he is the only true god and he is worthy of every aspect15:34of our lives he is worthy of every aspect of our praise adoration is our intimate expression or our kiss to our bow towards our kiss towards our proscanio to god we should adore him for who he is but i think beyond a shadow of doubt in the new testament tells us something that is so appropriate it drives home the15:58illustration of what i'm talking about in adoration i want you to camp with me for a few moments in john chapter 12 john chapter 12 mark chapter 14 and the other two gospels this gives us a beautiful portrait of adoration all four of the gospel writers wrote about this story in detail many of you will know this it is a wonderful wonderful passage john chapter 12 beginning with the first verse jesus that jesus16:26therefore six days before the passover came to bethany where lazarus was whom jesus had raised from the dead and so they made him a supper there and martha was serving but lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with him mary therefore took a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard and anointed the feet of jesus and wiped his feet with her hair very important line there folks and the16:52house was filled with the fragrance of perfume and but judas iscariot one of his disciples who was intending to betray him said why was this perfume not sold for 300 denarii and given to the poor people now he said this not because he was concerned about the poor but because he was a thief and as he had the the money box he used to pilfer what was put into it jesus therefore said to said let her alone that17:18she may keep it for the day of my burial for the poor you always have you but you do not always have me church i want you to notice something in that passage she took a pound of costly perfume of pure nard now this is a passage where in march chapter 14 it's the same passage where they went to simon17:45the ex-leper's house and they put together a party and had a party to adore god for who he is why were they doing such a thing why were they adoring god for who he is why because jesus had come along and lazarus their brother martha and mary had the brother lazarus he had died he'd been dead for four days and he was still in the tomb and he walks over to the tomb and says roll away the stone you18:10know the story john chapter 11 he says roll away the stone and he cries out into a loud voice and said lazarus come forth i love that verse and the bible says he who had died bound hand and foot got up and came forth aren't you glad that he called him by name the king of kings and the lord of lord and he walked up to the tomb of all those tombs in the18:38graveyard there where lazarus was buried if he just said come forth the entire graveyard would have gotten up and walked out but he said lazarus come forth and the bible says that lazarus he who had died bowed hand and foot and jesus said whoo here we go take off those grave clothes and turn that boy loose the damoran translation version go look it up for yourself take off those grave clothes and let him go19:02so martha and mary decided hmm we're gonna have a party we're gonna adore jesus for who he is and for what he has done we're gonna show our expression our love for him we're not gonna just let the stones cry out to him we are going to adore god for who he is and so martha she is the she is the master entertainer19:25she is loves to put on a party she gets the guest list out she has all the people that's going to come long you know those eleven those disciples one of them wasn't really his disciple he was a betraying him judas iscariot he was a scumbag jesus even said he should not have even been born19:48he just said judas iscariot he's going to betray me he knew who he was why because he was god that's why and so they put together a party and martha has the party going on and man the music's going great and everything is just exciting and the food is spectacular and mary says i love jesus and i want to adore him20:11for who he is but what can i do and so she looks back into her purse a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard i have no idea what pure nard smells like but it says 60 denarii that's about 300 in that day's time that's a lot of money nowadays folks she puts together this pure nard and she takes it and john20:39mark's gospel tells it this and she pours it over his head and john says she pours it over his feet don't get caught up in that she poured it on his head it ran down off his feet i don't know but she took that pound of costly perfume of pure nard to adore god for who she is now watch this come in close she pours it over his feet have you looked at feet lately very useful21:03they are but usually not the prettiest part of your body is it and i'm sure jesus feet was kind of scuffed up didn't have these nice leather slip-ons they had a piece of leather on the bottom of the feet strapped around there and they'd be walking these dusty old trails and what would happen i imagine jesus yes jesus stumped his toe every now and then knocked his nail half off feet were dirty21:33and she reaches down with that pound of costly perfume of pure and she said i want to adore you god here it is and she pours it over his feet and then she takes a rag no she takes what i believe her long black beautiful hair and brad she wipes his feet with her hair and then there were some deacons in the room22:02they said we should get some money together we should put this out on the marketing campaign we could sell this stuff and give the money to the poor people may not have been deacons may have been elders i don't know who they were they were the disciples that were in the room and jesus said stop what she's done she's done beforehand for my burial and wherever in march chapter 14 wherever the gospel is preached throughout the whole world22:32what this woman has been done has done will be spoken as a memorial to her now gathering here close and don't miss this we can jump up and down and jump at jacks for jesus all day long but you want to get intimate with god start adoring for who he is when we adore god for who he is in the private moments of our lives where we're calling upon the name of our savior22:58when you start realizing all that he has done for you i can't help but adore him for who he is we have people all across this nation that adore other things than jesus and yet sunday they show up here and they're doing jumping jacks for jesus and the other week days of the week they're living for themselves23:22church i challenge you let's adore god for who he is a w tozer said it best adoration is the missing jewel of the church we figured out this praise and worship stuff as baptists have we not we figured out all this great music and all this incredible dance stuff and all that we figured that out and it's great it's a23:52is it's part of the process of worship but folks let me ask you this question when have you just gotten alone with your savior on your face before god and said god i'm not asking for anything all i want to do is give my life to you today i want to adore you for who you are when we start seeing god for who he really is24:22we will do nothing but adore him for all that he has done worship is setting our mind's attention and our hearts affection on god will you will you adore god today let's pray24:57quietly in this room i'm going to ask you to spend the next few minutes adoring god for who he is many of you think wait a minute they missed the prayer time where we come to the altar to pray now we didn't miss it this is when we're going to do it right now we pray for a different church every week we pray for a different missionary every week we're praying for our good friend billy abrams25:26over at cedar grove church in leeds we'll pray for my brothers he preaches god's truth today we're praying for our international mission board missionaries donna and tim acres they're serving in the ukraine we're praying for them we're praying from a local missional perspective today our very own christmas store needs your attention today well maybe today while we're praying for these25:56as this altar is open our deacons are standing by our counselors are waiting maybe you're here today and you're saying pastor i just want to adore god for who he is today i want to be a part of a church that leads people to adore god for who he is i don't know what's going on in your personal life right now but maybe you're here today and you've never truly invited jesus christ into your life today is a day of salvation you can't26:22adore him for who he is because you don't he doesn't reside he doesn't dwell in your life maybe today is that day of salvation for you maybe you're here today and you say dan i know jesus but i got a bunch of stuff going on in my life i got a bunch of situations going on in my life and i just need somebody to pray with me i need to adore god focus my attention on him my mind's attention and my heart's affection on him today26:53whatever the case may be whatever the decision that's in your heart today whatever you need to do will you right now just say god today i give my life to you i'm coming just as i am right now to you i'm surrendering my life to you right now27:21thank you for hearing my prayer with heads bowed and eyes closed if you're here today and god has spoken to your heart and you've responded and you prayed that prayer or something similar to that maybe right now you're here in this room you're that person would you just slip your hand up right where you are and say pastor today yes is there others yes yes is there others yes ma'am yes i see it absolutely27:50yes god never called a silent disciple do you know that he always called us he always deals with us privately but he calls us publicly to stand up and stand up and declare what he's done the change the transformation that he's done in our lives maybe you're here today and you say i just want a fresh touch with god today whatever the case may be this altar is open if you've raised your hand and you you would like to28:17speak with a trained person that would will walk with you and pray with you or maybe just have one of our deacon servant leaders come pray over you this altar is open i'm going to pray we're going to stand we're going to sing a great old hymn of the faith you come just as you are father god do your work in this place those that raise their hand father give them courage to stand up and step out those that are looking for church home pray father they stand up and step out today28:45those that are here that you are dealing with right now that maybe those in this room that have never truly born or not truly born again they've never come to a repentant heart they've never come to a salvation moment i pray father god that you speak to their heart right now give them courage to stand up and step out god there's some in this room right now that need to do that right now there's some in this room that you need to unite with this congregation there's some that just need to come to this altar29:12and fall on their face before you we give you all the praise and the glory give them courage in jesus name we pray we stand and we sing right now you come greg lead us the altar is open
