Although we cannot physically gather together due to the COVID-19 virus, days like today are vital for our souls because we are created for community. We're adopted into a family that together the Lord is using to display His glory.0:24It is amazing to think that hundreds, if not thousands, are gathered in their homes worshiping together right now in the same moment. So I want you to know that we miss you. One of our prayers is that the lack of physical proximity will create a holy longing for togetherness. So here are some thoughts as you worship with us today. First, we want you to sing loud.0:53Read with conviction the word. Laugh, cry, and pray as if you were fully present physically. Second, take a moment to recognize the unfamiliarity of this moment. Often new situations heighten our awareness of the spirits moving in our lives. Also, we encourage you to share pictures. Use social media as a gospel opportunity. Take a picture of your worship and share it with your friends today.1:20And also, please interact with us. Your pastors are watching worship with you and we would love to pray and encourage you. Father, you are great and worthy to be praised.1:43We confess to you right now that this is unique and different for many of us. But Lord, this has not caught you by surprise and you are not unaware. We thank you that you do not change, even in the midst of a chaotic and changing culture. So, Lord, stir our hearts and our affections for Jesus Christ. May we worship you in spirit and in truth.2:13And until we can gather together physically, Lord, unite us spiritually. We thank you. We pray this in the name that is above all names. Let's all pray together now.12:342 Chronicles 7 reminds us that if those who are called by the name of the Lord will humble themselves and pray, turn from their wicked ways, then God will hear from heaven and He will heal their lands. We believe that our world and our nation is in need of healing. Healing that only God can provide. Healing that is only found in the good news of Jesus Christ.13:02So we will enter now in our worship a time of prayer, guided prayer. Pastor Jared and I will lead us in four different moments of prayer. And we encourage you to pray with us at home or wherever you're watching our worship today. We also encourage you to designate someone to lead your group in prayer as we pray together as the body of Christ. We're first going to pray for the unemployed, those who have lost work or are now underemployed13:29because of this coronavirus. We're going to pray that God would provide for their families as only He can. So join me as we pray for the unemployed and the underemployed. Father, we come to You right now, the sustainer and lifter of our family. We pray that God is the most important thing. We pray that God is the most important thing. Father, I ask Your blessing and Your favor upon those who have already lost their job because of the economic depression through this virus and through this worldwide pandemic.14:24Lord, we ask Your financial provision. Lord, give them their daily bread. Give them all of their needs as You say You will. And Lord, ultimately, as You provide for the needs of those who are struggling right now, that they would see that You are everything You say You are.14:50That they would be open to the gospel if they do not know You. That they would turn from their sins and that they would turn to Christ, the source and the provision of their salvation. Oh Lord, hear our prayer. We pray Your favor upon those who are in need right now. In Jesus' name. Next, we just want to take some time just to pray for our leaders.15:17We want to pray for the leaders of our churches, of our community, and the leaders of our country as well. We want to pray for wisdom and that they would have wisdom from God to know what to do that is best for all. So let's just take a few minutes just to pray for our leaders. God, right now, I pray for humility.15:39I pray that we would all confess that we don't have the answers.15:54And we confess that we need You. So God, I pray that You would be with our leaders. God, You would be with the leaders of our churches.16:20You would be with the leaders of our communities and our country. God, that they carry such a heavy weight and they carry a high responsibility as they make decisions that affect families and workers. God, I pray that they would be wise and that You would provide wisdom and that You would provide guidance. God, I pray that our leaders would have wisdom to do what is best for all people.16:49That they would lead from the authority of Your word. And that they would lead with confidence. They would lead with boldness. And God, ultimately, we know that You are completely in control. God, but would You lead our leaders as they lead us. And I pray this in Your perfect name.17:17I want to guide us now as we pray for students and families as our students are out of school. And also keeping in mind those who are graduating this semester. Who will not have the opportunity to walk in the difficulty that that might cause them. I pray for discipline that our students would finish strong.17:42Pray for teachers and educators as they continue to lead and educate those even from afar. So join me as we pray for students and educators and faculty in this moment. Father who is in heaven, Your name is holy.18:10Father, we thank You that You sent Jesus to be our Lord. To be our righteous teacher.18:39That we might learn from Him. What is right for living and also the path of righteousness. We thank You that our teacher modeled to us how we might learn for the glory of God. So Father, we lift up students and educators, faculty, and administrators right now. Thank You for modeling for them what it looks like to learn and to grow.19:08Thank You for those that You have put before us to help teach and educate our students. Father, we pray that You would provide discipline and instruction in this moment of uncertainty. Lord, we pray that the longing that teachers have to love and care for their students would still be felt through other means of communication.19:33Lord, we pray for the leaders of our school systems, for our superintendents and our educators that You would give them the wisdom to lead, to provide. Lord, we pray as they learn, even from distance, that they would learn through the power of Your Holy Spirit, that they would grow not only in wisdom and strength, but in stature and spirit with God and man.19:56Lord, we pray a special blessing upon the seniors who will not walk because of the coronavirus. Lord, show them that their hard work is not in vain.20:22May their family and community shower them with love and support. Let them know that they are valued. Lord, we pray these things in Jesus' name. Next, we want to take some more time just to pray for our churches and our pastors and our ministry leaders, and not only in our church, but churches in our community and churches all across the country.20:40As right now, we are all in a new season, in a different season that we did not expect. And there's not a script for this, but we do trust God to guide us through it. So would you pray now for our churches and our pastors and our ministry leaders, that they would lead and that they would love well for the glory of God.21:05Let's pray for just a minute. Oh God, we are so thankful that you are the head of the church.21:16God, would you be with our pastors and our ministry leaders.21:42Again, as we come, come to you in humility to confess that we need you. God, we need your help to lead. So God, would you lead our pastors and our churches and our ministry leaders? Would they lead and would they love well for your glory? God, would you provide for our churches in only ways that you can provide.22:07And God, in this season, would our goal never change. And that's to make your name known and to make your name famous across every nation. God, I pray that our churches in this season would worship like never before. I pray that our pastors would preach like never before. And I pray that our people would serve like never before.22:35Would we love our neighbor well? God, would your gospel be made clear and would your name be made known? And in this season, would we raise one banner together and that is the name of Jesus Christ. God, I pray that the gospel would not stop with us, but it would spread through us. Would we not be known by the things that we do, but would we be known by what you've already done for us in your son, Jesus.23:02And God, we give you all the glory. And God, even now, as we continue in our worship time, God, would we lean into your presence wherever we are at, in our homes, in our living rooms, with our families. Would we lean into your presence, would we feel your goodness this morning? God, would we worship you in spirit and truth?23:30Because if we worship in spirit and truth, even our living rooms become places of worship because your presence and your spirit is there. So God, we thank you for your presence. We thank you for your spirit and we worship you now. Thank you for praying with us and for us. And we just want to encourage you to, again, join us as we worship through song and through the word as we proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.23:59Well, as we continue now in our time of worship, we just want to read together right out of first Peter chapter one. So we're going to have the words on your screens. So we just ask that even where you're at right now, even in your homes, your living rooms, with your family, let's all read together.24:22Let's read first Peter chapter one. It says, blessed be the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of his great mercy, he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. And into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled and unfading, kept in heaven for you.24:46In the darkness we were waiting without hope, without light.24:55Till from heaven you came running, there was mercy in your eyes.25:24To fulfill the law and prophets, to a virgin came the word. From a throne of endless glory, to a cradle in the dirt. Praise the father, praise the son, praise the spirit, three in one.25:50God of glory, majesty, praise forever to the king of kings. To reveal the kingdom coming and to reconcile the lost.26:19To redeem the whole creation, you did not despise the cross. For even in your suffering, you saw to the other side. Knowing this was our salvation, you died. Knowing this was our salvation, Jesus, for our sake you died.26:44Praise the Lord. Praise the father, praise the son, praise the son, praise the spirit, three in one. God of glory, God of glory, majesty.27:10Praise forever to the king of kings. To the king of kings. And the morning that you rose, all of heaven held its breath. Till that stone was moved for good. Till that stone was moved for good. For the lamb had conquered death.27:38And the dead rose from their tombs. And the angels stood in awe. And the angels stood in awe. For the souls of all who'd come. To the father are restored. And the church of Christ was born. And the church of Christ was born. Then the spirit lit the flame. Now this gospel truth of all. Shall not kneel, shall not faint.28:05By his blood and in his name. Let's turn to the word now.29:30I have some bad news. I'm sorry to tell you this, but you have. Are you sitting down because we need to talk? It's not you. It's me. It's me. Set your house in order. There are certain phrases that strike fear into the heart of every person.29:54Some key words signal the defining moments of crisis. Many of you are amid that struggle right now. And maybe you like me in my life have heard these phrases. And when you did, your heart sunk. I want you to know that Yahweh is no stranger to difficult moments and seasons of life.30:19Today, I want to share an intimate conversation from the Bible. The very moment a king hears the worst news anyone could ever hear. He hears the words, "You are about to die and you will not recover." And even in that moment, we have a powerful reminder that God is bigger than your crisis.30:45So if you have your Bibles with you today, I encourage you to join me in the book of Isaiah. Isaiah chapter 38. And I will read from verses 1 to 8 today. Isaiah 38:1-8. The word of the Lord says, "In those days, Hezekiah became terminally ill.31:13The prophet Isaiah son of Amos came and said to him, "This is what the Lord says. Set your house in order for you are about to die. You will not recover." Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and he prayed to the Lord. He said, "Please, Lord, remember how I have walked before you faithfully and wholeheartedly.31:34And I have done what pleases you." And Hezekiah wept bitterly. Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah. Go and tell Hezekiah, "This is what the Lord God of your ancestor David says. I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. Look, I am going to add 15 years to your life.32:03And I will rescue you and this city from the grasp of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city. And this is the sign to you from the Lord that He will do what He has promised. I am going to make the sun's shadow that goes down on the stairway of Ahaz go back 10 steps." So the sun's shadow went back the 10 steps it had descended.32:30Let me pray. Father, as we read your word, use your spirit to illuminate our minds and our hearts to behold the glorious mystery of the good news of Jesus Christ. Remind us in this moment that you are so much bigger and greater than any crisis we will ever experience in our life. Thank you that we can rest in the good news that Jesus gives us the victory.32:57We pray all of these things in Jesus our Messiah. Amen and amen. A crisis is a time of intense difficulty, trouble or danger. It's the turning point of disease or pandemic when an important change takes place indicating either recovery or death.33:18See, this is how the dictionary defines the word crisis. Maybe you can relate. I feel like our world is reeling from the devastating effects of the coronavirus. At this moment, at least 450,000 confirmed cases.33:43Friend, I want you to know that the Lord is not silent in times like this. As we read earlier in the days of Isaiah and Hezekiah, the prophet said to the king, "Set your house in order" in verse 1. At this point, Hezekiah was a young man around the age of 39.34:12Well, how would you react if you received such difficult news? Here's a powerful spiritual truth. Every crisis in your life includes a wake-up call. Isaiah was not pronouncing judgment as much as he was simply pronouncing a statement of fact. There is something powerfully visceral about a wake-up call, a crisis of faith and a defining moment.34:39The psalmist in Psalm 90 verse 12 utters something similar. He says, "Teach us, O God, to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts." The thief on the cross, knowing his moments were limited, knowing that he had few breaths left, asked the Messiah.35:02He said, "Jesus, remember me when you enter into the kingdom." He said, "Yes, that's what we are experiencing in Luke 23:42." I believe that this moment, what we are experiencing as present, for you and for the church, is truly a defining moment. I believe this is a get your house in order wake-up call.35:31Why? Because God's moments during times of crisis help us put our entire lives in perspective, where we need the Holy Spirit to help us keep the main things the main things, and the plain things the plain things. I believe the opposite of a wake-up call is a life wasted. My prayer today is that God would wake us up, that we might passionately pursue Jesus Christ every day and every moment of our lives.35:59Every crisis, this crisis, these moments, include a spiritual wake-up call. Do not sleep when God is waking you from your slumber.36:23Secondly, I believe we see here from this passage of Scripture, in verse 2 especially, that every crisis reveals your dependence. In verse 2, we see that Hezekiah, the moment he received this news to get his house in order, that he would not recover. In this very moment, he turns his face to the wall, and he prays to the Lord. And he says, "Please, Lord, remember how I have walked before you faithfully.36:52Lord, remember how I have walked before you wholeheartedly." In an instant, Hezekiah's life changed, and he immediately turned his face towards the Lord. How did the king know where to turn? I believe it's because he often went to the fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel's veins.37:18One Greek philosopher said it this way. He said, "We do not rise to the level of our expectations, but we fall to the level of our training." See, I believe Hezekiah's crisis revealed his character. It revealed his dependency. He was a man who knew where to turn in his moment of need.37:44Something changes within a person when you realize that the Lord is near and that He is with you. Listen, I want you to understand right now that if you are in Jesus Christ, He is with you. That's the promise of God for those that love Him and are called according to His purpose. Charles Spurgeon says it this way, that nearness to God brings likeness to God.38:13The more you see God, the more of God will be seen in you. See, Hezekiah's crisis in Isaiah 38 reminds us of this very clear and powerful truth. You can depend on God. He is a loving Father who turns His face towards those who turn their face towards Him.38:35Crisis in your life reveals your reliance. So who are you depending on right now? What do you rely on? Are you depending on God as your only source of strength and salvation? Look at what Hezekiah says in verse 3. He says, "Please, Lord, remember how I have walked before you faithfully and wholeheartedly39:02and how I have done what pleases you." And then Hezekiah begins to weep bitterly. So look again at what He says. He says, "Please, Lord, remember how I have walked faithfully, wholeheartedly." This is a prayer and the power of a life completely devoted to the one true God.39:26Hezekiah's service to the Lord was not half-hearted or self-seeking. Rather, it was whole. It was complete. In Christ, you were not called to clean out a closet or two. We are called to set our entire house, set your whole house in order.39:51So I simply ask you right now. Will you boldly pray and ask the Lord to give you strength to rely upon Him and Him alone? Oh God, let us set our houses in order. Let us serve you faithfully and wholeheartedly, not with some of who we are, but with all of our heart, with all of our soul, and with all of our strength."40:15Every moment of crisis reveals your true dependence. Thirdly, I believe that we see this. Every crisis in your life revealed the tender mercies of your Savior. As the king is weeping, the word of the Lord comes to the prophet in verse 4 and verse 5.40:44Now we're not told here in Isaiah 38, but 2 Kings 20 tells us that before Isaiah gets to the courtyard of the palace, the word of the Lord comes to the prophet. The Lord was not slow to answer the tearful prayer of the king. And likewise, we see in the word of God that the Lord is quick to answer you.41:13He's quick to answer me in our moments of need. The first tender mercy of your father is that the father is quick to hear. I'm reminded often that only a son or a daughter would be foolish enough to wake the king up at 2 o'clock in the morning and ask for a glass of water. But that's the bold assurance that any child has who knows that their father loves them, that cares and will meet their need in their time of need.41:39And yet this is what you can do because of the bold love of Jesus Christ. This is exactly what the Messiah says in Matthew 7, verse 7. Jesus himself says ask and it will be given to you. Seek and you will find.42:06Knock and the door will be opened. Remember in times of difficulty that your father is quick to hear you in your time of need. What a great tender mercy and promise of anyone who seeks Jesus Christ. Secondly, we see this tender mercy in the time of crisis. We see that sometimes your father allows an incomplete picture so that you will completely trust in him.42:33Did God change his mind? Clearly Isaiah comes to the king and says, "You will die. You will not recover." Hezekiah prays and he weeps. God comes back to the prophet and he gives Hezekiah 15 more years of life and vitality. Did God change his mind? No. What we see that God answers Hezekiah not on the ground of human faithfulness,43:01but on the faithfulness of his ancestor David. We see this prayer in verse 5. The Lord God answers because of the ancestor David and says, "I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. Look, I am going to add 15 years to your life." Here's what we might not fully understand yet.43:28And what Hezekiah might not fully have understood. It's quite possible that in this moment Hezekiah had not yet a son who would one day take the throne. This was a promise that the Lord God Yahweh had made to David. It's a promise that the Lord unconditionally gave to David. So the fact that Hezekiah would die early meant that God would break his promise.43:55So the health of Hezekiah was more than death. It was the broken promise and broken trust of a faithful God. You see, Hezekiah's crisis threatened to break God's promise. In essence, the news of get your house in order was God's way of saying to Hezekiah, "Do you trust me?"44:17Do you trust God even when you have an incomplete picture? Maybe you're looking around at the world right now and you say, "God, I can't see fully." And God is asking, "Do you trust Me?" Do you trust that Jesus works for the good even when you can't see any good?44:46Often your heavenly Father will allow you an incomplete picture so that you will completely trust and depend upon Him. See, I believe it's a mercy from heaven that faith is much greater than sight. Do you trust God today? Tender mercy three that we see in this text is that your Father will not forget you.45:15You see, Isaiah's appearance to Hezekiah is an indication that God had not forsaken the king. Remember, before Isaiah gets to the courtyard, God comes back to the prophet and he comes to the king yet a second time. And listen to what Yahweh says to Hezekiah in verse 5. He says, "Go tell Hezekiah, this is what the Lord your God of your ancestor David says.45:43I have heard your prayer. I have not only heard your prayer, but I have seen your tears. Look at what I am doing in your life." Heard, seen, and look. In Christ, you do not worship a God who idly sits in heaven, but a Father who actively hears you,46:09who actively sees you, and who actively calls you to look and listen at His work in your life. I want you to know today that your Father will not forget about you. Every crisis reveals the tender mercies of the Savior to you.46:35And again and again, God is shouting that He loves you, that He cares for you, that He is seeing you, and that He is working in your life. But I wonder what Hezekiah would tell us about his experience. What would Hezekiah tell you about his crisis? Well, you don't have to guess because the word of the Lord reveals the heart of the king.47:03Look in verse 17 of the same chapter. Hezekiah himself says, "Indeed, all of this was for my own well-being, that I had such intense bitterness. God, but your love has delivered me." This is the response from a man who understood that Yahweh is bigger than his crisis.47:30I read a story recently that stuck in my mind and my heart. It's a story about a man who loved figs. And so he went out and he picked a basket of figs. He brought them to his house and he sat down to eat the figs. He put the first fig in his mouth and as he bit into the fig, he realized that this fig had a worm.47:59So he threw it in the trash and he ate a second fig. Like the first, the second fig also had a worm. So he threw it out. Again, there was a third fig. So he ate the third fig. And as he was eating the third fig, it too was ruined by a worm. So he had a grand idea. He left his chair. He went to the wall. He turned off the lights, sat back down, and then he began to eat the rest of his figs.48:27I believe in the same way. Oftentimes we push aside God's wake-up calls. We turn off our spiritual lights and we're content to eat the worm. The danger is that when the crisis fades, when the crisis is averted, that we go back to business as usual.48:48Your father wants you to wake up every day and run to Jesus Christ. God is bigger than your crisis. Do not turn off the lights. Do not go to sleep, but wake up. Depend upon Jesus the Messiah and find that his mercies are tender.49:15Maybe as you hear this word and this good news, you realize that you have never trusted in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. The biggest crisis that we all face is our eternal separation from God because of our personal sins.49:34And if that's you, if you finally realize that you are a sinner and you are in need of a great Savior, we want you to know that when you pray, your Father will hear you if you pray through faith and a repentant heart. And we want to give you the opportunity to pray a prayer and say, God, I need you.50:03I welcome you in my life. You could pray a prayer something like this right now. And as I pray, I welcome you to pray also at home from your heart and ask God to save you and redeem you.
