that called Abraham from Ur. God called him in Genesis 12. It was God that called Moses from the burning bush. It was God that called Samuel in the middle of the night, not once, not twice, but three times. And Eli said, listen, I didn't call you to Samuel. He said, if the voice calls again, then say, speak, your servant is listening. And the Lord called Samuel in his grace three times.

So clearly, Matthew doesn't start at the beginning. Which is an indication that Matthew is pointing us to a glorious promise that God has made to Abraham himself. And here's the promise in Genesis 12, 15, and 17. God says to Abraham, I will bless those who bless you. I will curse anyone who treats you with contempt. And all people on the earth will be blessed through you.

…does God keep his promises? Because if you've been reading the Bible with us, Deuteronomy ends with the death of Moses. And so you have to ask yourself the question, does God keep his promises? He promised Abraham in Genesis 12. He said to Abram, go from your land to the land that I will show you and I will bless you and I will make your name great.

He said to Abram, go from your land to the land that I will show you and I will bless you and I will make your name great. This land that was promised in Genesis 12 is now being fulfilled in Joshua 2. So when you hear that the spies were spying out the land, we have to ask ourselves, does God really keep his promises? And that's the drama that is unfolding in the word of God.
