They say, God, Yahweh, you're being a little heavy hand. Remember, these are your people. Like, don't kill them all. Remember the whole temple thing, you gave them Ten Commandments, Aaron's staff budded, covenant, God's promised land. God, you've promised them a lot. They're your people. They're your segula in Hebrew. They are your special treasure in Exodus 19.6. God, are you sure you want to rid the world of these people?

In Exodus 19, 6, God tells Moses to Israel, You will be my holy nation. Singular. You'll be my united nation. And history from Exodus 19 to 1 Kings 11 is progressing towards the unification of God's holy people. That they might have shalom. And we know that because Jerusalem, Yerushalom, is the city of peace. It's the city of wholeness.

And what does she find in the wilderness? In verse 16, the earth opens and swallows up the river. The dragon is spewed from his mouth. In verse 14, we see that the woman was given wings of a great eagle so she could fly from the serpent's presence. In Exodus 19:4, God reminds his people, never forget that you left Egypt on the wings like eagle. Never forget in Exodus 14 that God parted the Red Sea.

I mean, God doesn't need your permission for you to obey him. He's God. I mean, let that sink in. But God desires relationship with you. And when God chose us, when he predestined us, as we see in Exodus 19, he tells Israel, you will be my own possession out of all people's relationship. Even though the whole earth is mine. And when God chose you, he changed the paradigm from duty to I have to, to devotion.
