That which should be center and core, God's presence should have been among His people, in the center of the camp, was now on the outskirts. Actually, the ark was protected in 1 Samuel 7 by a man named Eleazar in a small village in a private residence. So what is called Baaleh Judah here is also called Kiriath Jairim. And God blessed the house of Eleazar. But church, just a reminder, it is possible to be religious.

But before we find Israel's request for a king in 1 Samuel chapter 7, we find a more personal request from an unsuspecting individual at the beginning of this book. And I find it very fascinating that the book which introduces kingship in all of the Old Testament begins with a brokenhearted request. And this might surprise you even in the Old Testament, but it begins with a new birth.
