ASKING FOR A FRIEND – Is the Bible reliable—or just ancient myth?

21:371 Corinthians 15
If what we have in the word of God is true, we should ask the question, What does the Bible make of me? What does this word make of me? First, we see that the Bible preserves the central message of Christianity. So if you want to turn there, 1 Corinthians 15, for instance, I'm going to give several scriptures as we continue on. 1 Corinthians 15, verse 3, Paul says very clearly, he says,

1 Corinthians 15, verse 3, Paul says very clearly, he says, I passed on to you as most important what I also received. He said, so this is the first thing. This is the most important thing. That Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures. That he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, that's Peter, then to the 12.

Because if we're honest, the resurrection is too good to be true. Right? And I know what your grandparents taught you. If it's too good to be true, then it's probably not true. Unless God's involved. Right? 1 Corinthians 15, Paul says this. If the resurrection, if Christ had not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. If Jesus did not rise again, your faith would be in vain.

physically rose from the dead. This is the grounding of our hope. So today we're going to go back to the basics. The heart of our faith is the cross and the hope of our faith is the resurrection. And that is today's message, the hope and the heart of our faith. So join me as we read 1 Corinthians chapter 15. And by the end of the day, may we leave here not guessing about the gospel, not offering good advice

…I'm not ashamed of that gospel. It's the power of God and the salvation for those who believe, for those who put their trust in it, for those who put their faith in it. That gospel is going to save me. And Paul says in 1 Corinthians chapter 15, he said, this is the gospel. That Christ died for sin according to the scripture. Was buried and raised three days later according to the scripture. And if we put our faith in what Christ did for us and Christ died for…

because in 1 Corinthians 15 25 Paul calls Jesus the last Adam interesting don't you think Jesus is the last Adam or the ultimate Adam because Jesus did what you and I couldn't do because Jesus lived a sinless life because he was born of a virgin and because he lived a sinless life you and I can receive complete

for those that have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior, our story does not end. In 1 Corinthians 15, 55-58, death has been swallowed up in victory. And that's just because Jesus died in our place. And he rose again. We all have the same fate on this earth as stated in scriptures, but the way we spend eternity is different. For those who follow Jesus, then we are declared not guilty. Because Jesus took our place.

And that's not simply a question we ask today. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15, he said, if Christ had not been raised from the dead, your faith is worthless. Because there were some in the early church saying that the resurrection is not possible. And Paul said, if that were true, then our faith…

It's Jesus' way of reminding Satan, in case you forgot, look at the horse. I won the war. That's what Jesus has done for us. It's John's way of reminding us this. When Jesus died on the cross for your sins and he rose again, victory was complete. And Satan was defeated once and for all. It's the same thing that Paul mentions in 1 Corinthians 15, verse 55. He says, But thanks be to God who gives us victory through the Lord Jesus Christ.

…to that. But until that day, church, let's aim our heart at knowing him more. Let's aim our heart at preaching the good gospel message to ourselves. Because Paul, again, he doubles down on this whole gospel thing. 1 Corinthians 15, it's the reminder, the gospel is truthfully, it is in which we are saved. But the gospel is in which we also stand.
