any line to jump there.0:00turn with me to isaiah chapter 6 thank you greg thank you worship staff for helping us in biblical worship today isaiah chapter 6 is our text we're in the worship series called worship what's the big deal about it and some people wonder that why we're talking about0:25worship well worship is the ultimate of the believer's life that we worship in spirit and in truth you begin the worship cycle by praising thanksgiving we started that way two weeks ago last week we talked about adoration as aw tozer called it the missing jewel of the church today we're discussing a subject today that i think is the lost element of worship it's something that we0:51just won't do don't want to do it's difficult for us to do every christ follower in this room it is difficult for us to truly confess our sin right and so we're talking about confession of the day the lost element of worship worship is setting our mind's attention and our heart's affection on god one message truth throughout the entire series worship is setting our mind's attention and our1:18heart's affection on god in the year of king uzziah's death i saw the lord sitting on the on the throne lofty and exalted with the train of his robe filling the temple a seraphim stood above him each having six wings with two he covered his face with two he covered his feet and with two he flew and one called out to another saying holy holy holy holy is the lord of1:42hosts and the whole earth is full of his glory and the foundation of the threshold trembled at the voice of him who called out while the temple was filled with smoke then i said woe is me for i am ruined because i'm a man of unclean lips i live among people of unclean lips my eyes have seen the king the lord of host then one of the seraphim flew to me with the burning coal with his with his hand2:12which he had taken from the altar with tongs and he touched my mouth with it and said behold this has touched your lips and your iniquity is taken away and your sin is forgiven verse eight then i heard the voice of the lord saying whom shall i send and who will go for us then i said isaiah said2:34here am i send me let's pray father let the words of my mouth and a meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight today lord we love you we praise you we thank you for what you're about to do in this place fathers we unpack your word today i pray lord jesus you receive all the glory all the praise all the honor and as we discuss a topic today that a lot of people will kind of just brush over3:03they want the marching orders they want to say yes but they have unconfessed sin in their life and god i pray lord as i've walked through this passage throughout this past week lord as i crisscross back and forth through your word i came to this urgency lord that3:26the new testament church in north america must confess its sin and god i pray i pray lord jesus personally today we walk away from this place differently than when we came it would be so tragic lord jesus that we came one way heard this beautiful biblical worship sung heard the teaching of your word3:53preached sat through a bible study this morning and left this place the same way that with which came god i pray that we walk away from this place completely changed radically different and we give you the praise and the glory and the honor in jesus name we pray4:23and the church said amen as you remember we started with praise and thanksgiving praise is our ultimate expression for god for who he is thanksgiving is our ultimate expression our love for god for what he's done every one of us at the sound of my voice this evening or this morning could stand up and say god has done this to me god has allowed me god has given me this we all have thanksgiving in our heart now not just a season not just a meal not just a time set aside on the calendar4:51but every one of us should have a grateful heart i love what ron dunn said ron dunn said we should have a attitude of gratitude in every aspect of our life because jesus reached down from the halls of heaven especially those of you are christ followers he reached down from the halls of heaven today and has given us the gift of eternal life in heaven for our very very own so we should have an attitude first of all of gratitude5:18just because he gave us the gift that boundless grace that boundless love of jesus reached down and gave us the gift of eternal life for our very own we should have praise uttering our lips rejoice the lord always shout unto the lord psalms 100 says we should be about praise but adoration is when we come to understanding when we start really seeing god for who he really is we will do nothing but lay down and adore him get proscanio on our face kneel bow before him5:47so when we look at this passage of scripture this order of service if i may this boundless order of service we are coming to a point before god ever spoke to isaiah before god ever gave clear direction to isaiah god had not spoken directly to him yet isaiah came to a confession point in his life6:11to me i think this is the most pivotal part of a worship cycle whether it's corporately in this arena or whether it's privately in our own personal life if you'll notice with me again in verse 5 then i said woe is me for i am a man of unclean lips for i am ruined because i'm a man of unclean lips6:34i live among people of unclean lips my eyes have seen the king the lord of hosts then one of the seraphim one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal with his hand which he had taken from the altar with tongs and he touched my mouth with it and said behold this has touched your lips and your iniquity is taken away and your sin is forgiven so when we start thinking about confessing our sins i think there7:03are three interesting points of interest for us to consider today number one is this confession happens when we see our sin like god sees our sins so fill that blank in confession happens when we see our sins like god sees our sins now i want you to just ponder on that for a second can you imagine god sitting in heaven7:28that's where he is sitting on the throne right now lofty and high and he's looking down and he's looking at our lives right now every one of us in this room we cannot do anything if you truly love god with all your heart soul mind and body you can't help but confess that sin you say well dad i'm not a sinner well thanks for this sinning right every one of us in this room including this wretched pastor7:54we are all sinners saved by his grace if you're christ followers but thank you for that and he says i want you to come boldly to my throne of grace with our sins god sees our sin when we see our sin like god sees our sin i'm talking about that tucked away sin back in the crevices of your heart i'm talking about8:23that sin that nobody out in public sees we dare not take it to the stadium we dare not take it to the restaurant we dare not take it to our family members but it's that unconfessed sin that's tucked away that's harbored into our hearts when we see our sin like god sees our sin we will come to the point8:45of confession we really see sin like god sees we will want to confess it now i believe isaiah in the 21st century vernacular would say he says woe is me for i'm a man of unclean lips i believe what it's actually saying if you brought it into the 21st century now i'm not rewriting scripture here9:14but he's saying oh oh how many of you now don't raise your hand because i don't want you to confess that sin publicly but mom said somewhere along the way when you were growing up don't get your hand in that cookie jar again you can look at me and tell me that i probably did not adhere her advice don't all of you nod your head and look pious and spiritual at me i'm looking at some of you too like9:43brad right we've all done that where we've reached inside that cookie jar mom said don't do it and then you got caught oh that's what isaiah is saying oh i see my sin like god sees my sin i want you to know when we see our sin like god sees our sin we will do nothing but confess now let me tell you something10:08gathering here close brothers and sisters this is an element of worship that satan can not stand he don't mind us doing jumping jacks for jesus he knows he's smart enough that we cannot be plucked out of the hand of god once we are saved by his grace he does not matter does not matter that we give food away he doesn't care if we give toys away does it matter if we pray for the sick it doesn't matter all10:38this music he doesn't he doesn't like it but it doesn't bother him but here's what it makes him sick is when we confess our sin before a holy god and god reaches down from the halls of heaven and wipes that sin away when we see our sin like god sees our sin it irritates satan to no end i love making him mad11:06you say do you like him get mad he comes comes against you i don't care because i've put on the form of god and i've not taken it off ephesians chapter 6 this is free by the way not part of the message i just want to give it to you ephesians chapter 6 6 says put on the whole armor of god where in that passage says take it off11:32here's what we do and i've done it i've done it myself i'm going to take my armor off tonight and lay it aside so i can get some sleep some rest that's nice and good but that's not what the word says the word says put on the whole armor of god we're gonna sin in our sleep because our minds are awful amen don't look spiritual at me12:01confession happens when we see our sin like god sees our sin we need an uh-oh moment let me take you to the new testament and let me show you what the new testament says if he uh luke chapter 5 the first sunday i was here with you i preached this passage one of my favorite passages in the word of god this is when jesus was calling out the disciples you know and simon peter had the boat and they were he had been just already seen him in capernaum and so he knew12:26who he was and so here he was he he comes by and says i need to find a place to preach and he sat down in verse one said he's and they were listening to the word of god and then simon's and jesus said to simon put out into the deep water and let down your boats for a net uh for a catch and simon said wait a minute god let me tell you about fishing in the sea of galilee the fisherman telling the man how to who invented the fish how to fish in his own sea see the humor there he says god let me tell you12:54about fishing but nevertheless at your word i will let down the nets and he does that in great and close a great quantity of fish we have no idea what that number is it must be a lot because the boats began to sink the nets began began to break the boats began to sink and they brought the boats to land and verse eight look what it says in luke chapter five but when simon peter saw that oh he fell down at jesus feet saying depart from me for i'm a sinful man oh lord13:21it's the same passage that isaiah chapter six is saying woe is me oh simon peter oh i doubted your powder power he fell down at jesus feet say depart from me for i am a sinful man oh lord church let me tell you something when we really get honest and when we confess our sin like god sees13:45our sins it's as if we've been caught we will come to that confession point now before you say wow that is so negative let me give you some positive confessions by the way there's 313 verses of positive confessions of our faith you say wow man you're just being so negative today there's 31314:08positive confessions let me give you one psalms 103 bless the lord oh my soul and all that is within me bless his holy name i wrote this down in my quiet time this morning worship is not an external activity for which an environment must be created but it takes place on the inside let me say that slowly so that14:36you can get it again worship is not an external activity for which an environment must be created but it takes place on the inside i want you to turn with me to psalms chapter 51 psalms chapter 51 gives us a beautiful beautiful portrait i love what it says psalms chapter 51 verse 10 somebody ought to put this to song15:03create in me a clean heart and renew the steadfast spirit within me do not cast me away from thy presence do not take me thy holy spirit from me restore the joy of thy salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit then i will teach transgressors thy way and sinners will be converted sinners will be converted15:26i had this lady come up to me in this little town over mississippi i was preaching one of those revival services and she came up to me and she had that snarled look on her face you know that lady the church lady she came up with that snarled look on her face brad and she said preacher i just want to tell you i just love god i said why don't you just tell your face right folks let me tell you something restore the joy15:50of thy salvation of thy salvation jesus reached down from the halls of heaven and snatched our wretched souls from the pits of hell he said i'm going to give you the gift of eternal life for all of eternity16:19create in me a clean heart oh god restore the joy of thy salvation so i can teach transgressors that way and what sinners we don't like to say that in the 21st century cool hip church teaching them old sinners bless god bless god that's what they are and that's what we are teach16:47sinners thy way and sinners will be converted woe is me is what he said for i am a man of unclean lips mine eyes have seen the king the lord of hosts not only did he say i'm a man of unclean lips but i'm hanging around with a bunch of wretched guys17:17wretched guys we're in this thing together right every one of us confession happens when we see our sin like god sees our sin number two confession is the foundation upon which true redemption takes place confession happens when we redeem or redeemed by the blood of the lamb confession happens is the foundation upon which true conviction and redemption takes place17:43the foundation upon which true worship is based is redemption the christian journey is based on redemption we are redeemed by the blood of the lamb that's not some catchy little song where there's no shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of what say it with me sin folks if we don't understand that we are redeemed by the the precious blood of jesus18:08you see somewhere along the way in this room if you're a christ follower like me i was april 1971 first baptist trustful alabama a guy by the name mike colin youth sunday youth sunday mike colin stood in the pulpit of our church it was our big day it was our big event the place was packed the football team was there18:36the band was in the choir loft and played the music yes the high school band was there leading us in worship dr francis the great pastor of that church for many years would believed in teenagers and always had an opportunity for a special event every sunday youth sunday was it it was big april 71 sitting about 15 rows back in the center section of first baptist trustful this brought up in church kid who knew bible verses been the primary choir19:05i was in ra's i wanted to be in ga's but they wouldn't let me i was in all the stuff that church had to offer been there popcorn pizza fellowship church ever had songbook throwing business meetings i've been all kind of stuff brad i'm telling you i had been in church my entire life i came to the point when mike colin said this the only way you're going to get to19:29heaven is through a personal encounter and a personal relationship with jesus christ a church kid mom and dad deacon chair mom second soprano in the choir pillars of the church came to that moment that i knew that i was lost without jesus yes i was the starting quarterback on our football team i was terrible but i was it19:57we went oh and 10 my junior year in high school no it decided our senior year we liked that record we'd just do it again oh and 20 football we were horrible i'm telling you we were terrible but that day i was sitting about 15 rows back and i realized that i was lost and destined for hell and i started making my way out the island came forward and i invited jesus christ into my life20:24a radical redemption story began right then folks i invited christ into my heart because the wound of the holy spirit drew me the bible was preached that day the word was lifted up and it drew me to faith in christ and yes i prayed a sinner's prayer i invited christ jesus into my life that day have i doubted it of course i have every one of us in this20:55rooms that's most spiritual amongst us has doubted it at some point but correct confession is the foundation of true redemption i prayed something like this maybe you repeated something like this dear jesus i am a sinner separated from your love if i died today i would spend eternity separated from your love and today i confess my sin to you right now lord jesus21:24and i invite you into my life in jesus name amen and when i said amen signed sealed and delivered confession is when we see our sin like god sees our sin confession is the foundation upon which true redemption takes place and thirdly confession clears blurred vision repentance leads to a change of21:52attitude that leads to a change in action when we are redeemed it should change our attitudes when it's our attitudes are changed our actions would change or should changed i'm dumbfounded that people who call themselves the redeemed of the redeemed of the lord act like they're not redeemed22:22it dumbfounds me even in my moments of time away from god i tried not to act like i wasn't redeemed there are many people in this world today that stand up and say they're redeemed of the lord yet their actions do not speak of being redeemed so my question is this are you truly22:44redeemed are you truly saved by his grace i was preaching another one of those revival services over in mississippi and i was preaching on being redeemed and a gentleman about 80 years old got up at the end of worship he was the only person that came forward during a public invitation time and he grabbed the pastor by the23:14hand i thought he was praying for somebody and i could see the uncontrolled shaking of his body the weeping and the tears pouring down his eyes down his cheek and the pastor looked at me and looked at the the music guy and kept saying sing some more and this 80 plus year old man knelt at the altar and said i've been your chairman of deacons three times since you've been here i'm the trustee of this church but i've never23:39truly been redeemed church there's some of you in this room today billy graham says 75 to 80 percent of the new testament church in north america is lost without christ some of you need to confess and lay aside your pride and come to faith in christ today if you died without jesus christ today your pride will not24:04get you into heaven your pride and lostness will send you to eternal damnation separated from the love of god redemption leads to a change in attitude that leads to a change in action confession happens when we see our sin like god sees our sin confession is the foundation upon which true redemption and third and i am done24:33confession confession clears blurred vision confession clears blurred vision now every point in time of a christ follower's life there are times that we take our eyes off jesus where it says in hebrews chapter 12 fix your eyes upon jesus the author and perfecter of our faith who for the joy set before him endured the cross despite the shame and it sat down at the right hand of the throne of god every one of us that are christ followers including25:00this wretched old preacher up here we've taken our eyes off god a time or two and we are a ship without a sail without a rudder and we're aimlessly floating about out there and our vision is blurred somewhere along the way i know when my contacts are going bad because they start to burn a little bit i have one of those weird kind of doctors who said i need reading complexes i also need something for distance so she tried me several years ago on what is called mono vision and so i have a reading contact right25:29here and it's a bunch it's big so i can get the letters and print big enough so i can read it and then i have this one out here that's distant so i have two different pluses going on to balance everything out and late in the evening so i put my glasses on so i can really see and read and so i have this model but i know when my contacts are going bad brad because they start to burn and they kind of get blurred even though i clean them with the solution i clean them up every night and do the right thing25:57they kind of still get blurred why because the plastic in those contacts kind of start falling apart and the vision and the the strength of that that that lens goes bad and so it goes back so when we have not confessed our sin our eyes become blurred we don't clearly see jesus we don't clearly get his understanding i was recently walking through the great room at our house and26:27i'm confessing my wife's sin here my wife's sin she loves dancing with the stars ridiculous she loves american idol she just loves watching i think what she likes to watch is the progression26:55of the horrible singers and the horrible dancers and those get knocked out of the way and then you know it's always somebody from alabama that gets kind of close amen or wins that thing a few years ago the final night of the final night of american idol27:18of american idol 63 million votes i've seen everything there's 63 million people with no life whatsoever 63 million votes now she could say the same thing about me when i tune in sunday afternoon and sit in my chair and watch that wonderful game called golf27:47what kind of life is that well she has a right to be wrong amen 63 million people brad voted for this a person they have no idea who he is they've never more than likely never met the person nor will they ever meet that person it started me thinking this morning early in my quiet time 63 million people voted for a person they don't know28:16what is up with the world that is so caught up with a man that god created than with the god that created the man let that sink in just a minute we're so caught up with wins and losses it drives our lives28:46it it mo it it paralyzes us throughout a season of the year we're so caught up with that and less caught up with the lost and dying world around us we need our vision cleared we have blurred vision peter denied christ three times vision cleared the day of pentecost thousands come to faith in christ29:17we need a fresh glimpse of god don't we we need a fresh touch from god we need our vision corrected we need an uh-oh moment let's pray with heads bowed29:47eyes closed as greg and the worship staff come maybe quietly in this room right now god has spoken to your heart maybe quietly in this room today for the first time you have come to that place where you know if you died today you would spend eternity separated from god's love30:16maybe today you're seeing your sin like god sees your sin maybe you're coming to that point of redemption maybe today is that moment where you want to confess your sin maybe today you're saying dan i i want to surrender my life to jesus christ30:41maybe you're at that moment as you see your sin like god sees your sin that you're at that moment that crisis of belief moment and your vision is blurred and you want to come to faith in christ today31:12he's here willing and ready with open arms you surrender he says yes father god in this room today i believe there's some here today that truly need to invite you into their life i believe there's some in this room today right now father god that you are pre you're31:39speaking to right now and they are dealing right now right now they're confessing their sin to you right now they are clint asking you for a cleansing they're asking for you to to reach down and and wash them as white as snow they're surrendering to your lordship right now god i believe that in this room today that's happening right now32:03i believe there's some in this room that are saved by your grace but today you have spoken to their heart maybe through the sunday school lesson or maybe through the musical worship that we had today and and god maybe somewhere along the way something was spoken to you into their heart and you spoke to their heart lord they're saved but they're not totally surrendered32:35god i pray that you give them courage to stand up and step out we have pastors and trained staff here at the front and trained deacons here to pray and the altars open god give them courage you've never called a silent disciple you've always called us publicly to pronounce what you've done privately in our lives god do your work in this place we give you all
