  In Philippians 1.23, Paul says, to depart and be with Christ is far better. To the thief on the cross, today you will be with me. For Paul, to depart and be with Christ. Are you hearing a theme in scripture? He again says in 2 Corinthians 5.8, and he told us that away from the body is to be at home with the Lord.

  This is the love that echoes through the halls of God's bosom for you. Not only that, we have this refrain in Scripture, Philippians 1.23, if you want to turn there. What happens when I die? We go to Abraham's bosom. We go to the side of God. We're welcomed into his family. We go to paradise. Philippians 1.23 describes today's heaven like this. Paul says, to me, to live is Christ, to die is gain.

Asking for a Friend

• 18:31Philippians 1

  Paul, I do know who wrote Romans. In Romans 8, verse 1 says, therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Some of us are still thinking, okay, I know what Jesus said. I know what Romans said. But can you just give me one more hope-filled verse? I can. Philippians 1, 6. Paul writes this beautiful confidence to the Philippian church.

  That's why we together are trying to memorize the word. That's why we are trying to put Philippians 1, 6 in our hearts and our mouths. Because when we hunger and thirst, we will be filled. Where God says to us, I am confident of this, that he who began a good work is faithful to carry it. When? How far? To completion. Listen, we're not complete yet. But the joy is one day I will be.

  Jesus quotes Deuteronomy. And I bet Satan was like, really? Deuteronomy? Not John 3.16? Not Philippians 1.6? Deuteronomy. And Jesus says, yes, even Deuteronomy will hold Satan at bay. The sword of God is our weapon against Satan. Do not leave the sword of God on the shelf. Why is it so important that we know that he who began a good work is faithful to carry you to completion into the day of Christ Jesus?

  that he who began the Good Friday work carries it to completion on Resurrection Sunday. This resurrection is the confidence as Philippians 1 says that not only for Jesus but that he who began a good work in you will carry it forward to the day of completion. and I don't know about you but I'm not completed yet and there is hope in that fact that Jesus will carry me to the point

  There is nothing that you can do today to make God love you more. There is nothing that you can do today to make God love you less. He demonstrated fully his love to the end when Jesus died on the cross. But there is another part of Jesus' love for you. His depth of love. It is not only his saving grace, but it is his sustaining grace. Philippians 1 says it this way. In another way, in southern talk, this is a paraphrase.
