As king is closing and it feels like all hope is lost, there's a glimmer of light through the darkness and the clouds. It's as if God is saying to his people, I know your world is falling apart, but the king was pardoned. And I think God gives us this word because one day, Jesus Christ in Luke 4 would echo the same thing that we just read. Listen to what Jesus says his mission is.

Listen to what Jesus says his mission is. In Luke 4, 18. The spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. Who is left in the land of Jerusalem? The poor. He sent me to proclaim release to the captives. Who is Jehoiachin? He's a captive. In recovery to the sight of the blind, set free the oppressed. To proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.

We are in the middle of a brand new series called "Facts." Fact is simply what is true about something. And so we are looking at basic facts of our Christianity. Basic facts of our faith. And today we are going to look at Luke chapter 4. So if you have your Bibles, go ahead and find that. Luke 4:31. It's in the New Testament. It's the fourth gospel in the New Testament. Several weeks ago we began with Christian generosity.
