Lamentations, the book of Lamentations was written in the context of the smoldering ruins of Jeremiah chapter 39. So let's turn there. We're going to turn to Lamentations chapter 3. One book over, if you just keep going to your right. Lamentations begins, verse 1, chapter 1 says,

So if you read that, you say, God, how could you do this? You're not alone because the book of Lamentations, if Jeremiah 39 is the history behind this, Lamentations is the heart of what just happened. Here's the heart behind this. And we're going to read a lot of scripture today. And we will be better for it. Lamentations 3, verse 1. I am the man who has seen affliction under the rod of God's wrath.

Amen. Amen. Lamentations chapter 3 says this. It says, Because of the Lord's faithful love, we do not perish. For his mercies never end. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness. Wherever you're at this morning, we pray that you are thankful for the faithfulness of God. And that his mercies are new. And they never run out. Praise the Lord.

39:01Lamentations 3:21
I will go because your word commands me to do so. If therefore the son shall make you free, you are free indeed. Now, freedom is not something that we learn about Jesus. Brothers and sisters, freedom is Jesus. Lamentations chapter 3, verse 21, and I close with this. I want you to listen to the words of the Lord. But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope.
