And five times the Bible reminds us of this lifestyle. When the spies went to scout the promised land in Joshua 2, guess who they ran into? The prostitute. Now, the Bible never tells us why they ended up at her house. But I think there's something in scripture that is making us beg the question, what is going on? And the way the narrative turns out is it wasn't the spies that were the faithful ones of the group.

Joshua has just died. Look at Judges 1.1 now. After the death of Joshua, the Israelites inquired of the Lord. So, Joshua 1.1 here goes with Joshua 2, 8, 9, and 10. So now we get a bigger picture. Joshua is dying out. A lifetime of faith becomes a generational faith. The baton is about to pass. And when he dies, the Israelites inquired of the Lord.

If you have your Bibles open, put your finger on Joshua 2-8. Now, put your finger on Joshua 2-11. Joshua 2-8. Judges 2-8. Sorry. Joshua has died. Judges 2-11. Israel is doing what is right in their own eyes. Do you know how far that is? It's about that far in my Bible. In two verses, everything has descended into moral decay.
