His Name Shall Be

  him Emmanuel. Matthew is asking us to look back to a prophecy in Isaiah. And Isaiah says of the future and of the Messiah, the one to come, Isaiah 7, 14, says this, see, the virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Emmanuel.   So if you have your Bibles, please join me in the reading of God's Word, Matthew chapter 1, beginning in verse 22 through 24 this morning. Now, all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophets. That's the prophet Isaiah in Isaiah chapter 7, verse 14. See, the virgin will be pregnant and give birth to a son.

  and find Emmanuel on the top 10 list. This was God ordained for the world. This was the fulfillment of the promise in Isaiah chapter 7 and again in Isaiah chapter 9. And let me remind you that God's promises always live up to expectations. This is Emmanuel. Church, you need Emmanuel. Because without Emmanuel, you are alienated from the Lord.

Miracle in the Manger

  There's no natural explanation that you can conceive to make this prophecy make sense. Other than saying the Holy Spirit is involved. That's why it's a miracle. It's a supernatural intervention into the natural world. But wait, there's more. And this virgin will become pregnant and she will give birth to a son. And they will call him his name Emmanuel. This is what Isaiah 7, 14 says. Why?
