The Epistles of John

• 18:34Ephesians 4:29

  It has no place in your life. Ephesians 4.29 says this, no foul language should come from our mouth, but only what is good. He's not simply talking about cursing. He's saying, if idle words are coming from your mouth, we have no need of that. Except that which gives grace to those who hear. And let me say this, church, if we are excusing the ungodliness of other people in our ears, shame on us.

Kings and Kingdoms

  He closed the book of God. He did what he saw fit and it led to adultery and it led to his murderous plot. And not only in David's life, right? We see in the New Testament, we are warned over and over again. Ephesians 4 verse 30, 1 Thessalonians 5, 19. Do not quench the spirit of God. How do we do that? We quench the spirit when we close our ears and we close our eyes to the word of Christ. When we say, Lord, I get it.

  So if you have been given a gift, a treasure to use, what happens when you serve? Well, Ephesians, also written by Paul, reminds us of what happens when you serve. Now let me remind you, ministry is not for the professionals. It's for the saints. Who's a saint? If you've given your life to Christ, that is you. So let's turn to Ephesians chapter 4. Paul was an apostle who loved the church.

  And he says in Ephesians chapter 4, a very specific word to this church and every church. Beginning in verse 11, he's already spoken about gifts in Corinthians. Now he's speaking to people, positions. He says this, and Jesus himself gave some to be apostles. Some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors, and some teachers.

Solid Ground

  He said this is a totally unbiblical image. See there is one more piece to the solid ground foundation of the church. So let's turn to Ephesians chapter 4. God has given his church pastors, teachers, elders. He has given them deacons. And he has given them this unique collection of people.

From Death to Life

  The rest of my life is a P.S. to his great work. He said, Jesus has done so much for me. The rest of my life is a P.S. to his great work. That is the essence of Ephesians chapter 4. A sermon I've entitled, A Walk in Grace. It's God has done so much for us. We can't help. We can't help but live for him.
