  If you're not impressed by that, some of you are not, there's a second glory. But wait, there's more. It's the glory that we have victory over sin in Jesus Christ. Listen to how the apostle Paul in the book of Colossians reads. If you have your Bibles with you, we're going to camp out in Colossians chapter 2. Verses 13, 14, 15, and maybe 16. Paul, writing to a church, says this in Colossians chapter 2, verse 13.

  Paul, writing to a church, says this in Colossians chapter 2, verse 13. He said, when you were dead in your trespasses. Now again, Paul is writing to a church. He is preaching to the choir. He is writing to the saints. And to the saints, he reminds them, hey, don't forget that you were dead in your sins.

  God sent his only son, Jesus Christ, that your sins could be washed away. Listen to how Colossians 2 describes it. Jesus erased the certificate of debt with his obligations. That was against us and opposed to us. He has taken it away by nailing it to the cross. I don't know about you, but the debt I have because of my sin needs a lot of nails.

And Paul says to live as Christ, to die is gain. But Colossians 2, but he made you alive with Jesus and forgave your trespasses. Why? To live as Christ, to die is gain. And this beautifully profound hope of the gospel is this.

Colossians 2. You were dead in your trespasses. Not half dead. Not struggling. Not churchy. Not hypocritical. Whatever that word might be. You were what? You were, we were dead in our trespasses.

  Colossians 2, 14 says that he erased the certificate of debt that was against us and opposed to us and has taken it out of the way by nailing it to the cross. You see, the debt that we owe was not necessarily canceled, it was paid in full. That's the beauty of what Christ has done. That's the beauty of what Hosea does for Gomer. The price is not cheap.
