But before they kill Stephen, they have the right mind to set aside their outer garments. And in Acts chapter 7, at the end, we know that they set their garments at the feet of a man named Saul. The same man in chapter 9 of verse 1 is doing what? He's breathing out murderous threats.

The Lord says in Acts 7, the same book that blows these animals out of the water. He says this, what sort of house will you build for me? Or what will be my resting place? God is saying, you cannot build a system to worship me. You can't build a house to contain me.

  You say, well, where do we see that else in Scripture? In Luke 2:9. The glory of the Lord shone when the angel of the Lord appeared. His glory shines. In Acts 7, Stephen gazes into heaven and he beholds what? The glory of God. Now before you say, I want to be like Stephen, why does Stephen see God? He is being stoned and he's dying for his faith. We also see this at the transfiguration when Moses and Elijah appear with Christ.
